KPG Machine
Logo design by Chloe Flanders
project overview
KPG Machine is a machinery manufacturing company based out of Danielson, Connecticut. As a newly acquired business with a history of being family run and operated, the client was looking for a new logo to reflect this new stage in the business.

mood boarding
The client expressed that they were looking for a simple logotype with no illustrative additions. With this in mind, I took to LinkedIn to research logos from other businesses in the manufacturing industry that fit or was similar to this criteria. Bold lettering in all caps, along with colors in black or dark grey accompanied with an accent color were common trends across many companies.
logotype
Based on the inspiration I found in my research, I began conceptualizing logotypes with the idea of having a contrasting bold and thin typeface. I selected the typeface Trade Gothic Next since it is a simple, sans serif font with distinct bold and thin lettering options. Next, I began experimenting with positioning and kerning to create a clean and dynamic composition.
These are the top three logotypes that were produced from these experiments.
color
When selecting the color palette, my goal was to use colors that aligned with the manufacturing industry from both a branding and practicality perspective. I gathered imagery reflecting tools and products that are used and produced from the industry and drew colors from those images.
With these colors selected, I began applying them to the logotype options. My goal was to emphasize contrast in order to keep this simple logotype interesting. When adding accent colors to the logotype, they were only applied to the bold letters to reflect this idea.
results
After presenting the client with the logotype options and colors, it was decided that we would use the stacked logotype as the primary logo and the horizontal logotype as the secondary logo. I adjusted the kerning on the horizontal logotype to be consistent with the stacked version. Finally, I provided both logotypes in solid black and black and yellow.
